Introduction:-

The practice of burying the remains of the deceased by placing them it in a big urn prevailed in ancient thamilakam. Such urns were known as urn burials (Nannangadi).in some areas big stones were placed above such urn burials.Locally available stones were used for this .They are known as the Megalithic Monuments.The term "megalith" (mega: massive; lith: stone) is used to describe these monuments due to the use of large stone blocks in construction.stone circle,dolmen,cist
Rock chamber, thoppikkallu,(tomb stone)
Kudakkallu,(umbrella stone) sarcophagus, menhir,etc were remarkable among them. The period when the megalithic Monuments constructed is known as megalithic period.
Objective:-



.To understand the different megalithic Monuments and it's features .

.Identifies the human life  in ancient thamilakam.can be gathered from the remains of megalithic Monuments.

.To understand the important Megalithic sites.
